Allegations of infidelity have dominated Nigeria’s entertainment industry.

Over the years, many celebrity relationships have ended due to cheating allegations.

Although infidelity can happen in any relationship, there’s one big difference when it comes to the affairs of celebrities. Everyone hears about it.

These celebrities are susceptible to controversy, either through their recklessness or from just being famous.

From cheating allegations to divorces, controversies continue to saturate the industry.

Celebrities’ romances have been through some tough times, and some of them are still in it for the long haul.

DAILY POST highlights recent controversial news making headlines in the industry.

Davido

A cheating scandal involving Famous Nigerian Afrobeat musician David Adeleke, popularly called Davido, and his wife Chioma Rowland, recently took the internet by storm.

Davido was on Monday accused of having impregnated two abroad-based women, Anita Brown and Ivanna Bay, despite being married to his long-time girlfriend, Chioma Rowland.

Banky W

Popular Nigerian singer-turned-politician, Bankole Wellington, known as Banky W, was on Saturday accused of cheating on his wife, actress Adesua Etomi with his former signee, Niyola.

Banky W, who is currently trending on the internet over the unconfirmed cheating allegations, was accused of impregnating his USA side chick, and the self-acclaimed Mrs Wellington, USA chapter.

Korra Obidi

The Nigerian-American-based dancer made headlines in February 2022 after her white husband, Doctor Justin Dean, accused her of infidelity.

In May 2022, Korra, during an Instagram live session, admitted to cheating on her husband and explained that it was a one-time affair.

She said: “I’m not a chronic cheat; I’m far from it. Before I arrived in America during Trump’s presidency, I had an affair. And that affair lasted only one date; I’m sorry about it.

Yul Edochie

The actor made headlines in April 2022 after he announced Judy Austin as his second wife.

Many Nigerians, including fellow entertainers like Daddy Freeze, Uche Maduagwu, Uche Ogbodo, Rita Edochie, among others, expressed their disappointment in him.

Actor Damola Olatunji

Popular Yoruba actress, Bukola Awoyemi, professionally called Bukola Arugba, had earlier separated from her husband, actor Damola Olatunji.

She moved out of the actor’s house over alleged infidelity, a rumour denied by the actor.

Reacting to the trend, the President of the Association of Entertainment Practitioners and former Chairman, Actors Guild of Nigeria, Abuja Chapter, Onwurah Agility, said: “I think it’s because we are in the eyes of people; every story whether it is what it is or not, is trending.

“And no matter what it is, sometimes most of us that are celebrities are being pushed to do so many things. For instance, if I am the Chairman, at some point my wife needs to understand that if I open my phone most of the time to see what people are sending me, If I don’t have a strong heart, I might not be able to withstand it.

“Most of these are temptations because we are men. But you need to build a good relationship with your spouse. Build a trust that can serve you because everywhere you go, there are always temptations, and we used to have them in the university, but they are now common in the offices.

“The solution is to try more communication because sometimes it’s a little communication gap that makes you fall into temptations and some of these things that are happening.

“Sometimes people think infidelity is an adventure that will just start and go, and sometimes people want to think that it is a one-off thing. After doing the one-off, then you continue doing it because there are ways crime seems to give you a brief joy, but the end is always issues and problems.”

Similarly, an Abuja-based relationship expert, Adewole Johnson, while speaking with the Daily Post, listed bad role models, peer pressure, not being accountable, a desire for a different type of sex, and a sense of entitlement as causes of cheating in celebrity relationships.

He stated that a sense of entitlement makes many celebrities and prominent individuals feel they can cheat on their partners with impunity.

“Celebrities are constantly involved in cheating scandals because they feel infidelity is the norm because of the companies they keep. Those who watch their fathers, friends, or others they look up cheat will sometimes emulate that behavior.

“Also, many of them want to satisfy their sexual curiosity caused by their desire for a different type of sex,” he said.

Speaking on the solution, he urged prominent individuals to be accountable to their partners.

“Finally, spend quality time with your spouse,” he advised.
