Less than four days to the September 21, 2024, governorship election in Edo State, two prominent politicians, Senator Francis Alimikhena and Hon.

Omoregie Ogbeide-Ihama, have officially left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC). Both served in the 8th and 9th National Assembly, with Alimikhena representing Edo North Senatorial District and Ogbeide-Ihama as the representative of Oredo Federal Constituency.

The duo was welcomed into the APC by the National Chairman, Alhaji Abdullahi Umar Ganduje. Senator Alimikhena expressed joy at his return to the APC and committed to mobilizing his supporters to vote for the party in the upcoming governorship election.

Hon. Ogbeide-Ihama, in his remarks, criticized the PDP for allowing Governor Godwin Obaseki to enter the party in 2020, claiming it was done through “the back door.” He further expressed dissatisfaction with the recent choice of Asue Ighodalo as the PDP’s candidate for the 2024 election, accusing the party of continuing the same impunity. Ogbeide-Ihama vowed to support the APC candidate, Monday Okpebholo, and predicted a repeat of the outcome from the 2020 election.
