In a heartbreaking incident in Chibok Local Government Area of Borno State, suspected terrorists launched a violent attack on the Ekklesiyar Yanu'wa Church, claiming the lives of two worshipers and leaving two others injured.

The attack, which occurred at around 2 AM on a Sunday morning, has reignited concerns over security challenges in the insurgency-hit region.

According to ASP Nahum Daso, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Borno State Police Command, the assailants opened fire indiscriminately at the church. Thankfully, no worshipers were present during the shooting. However, two victims, identified as Esther Yohanna and Ali Yohanna, sustained gunshot wounds in the assault.

The violence didn’t end there. The attackers also set ablaze seven nearby shops in an apparent attempt to spread fear throughout the local community. This act of terror has further disrupted the lives of residents already grappling with insecurity.

In response, the Borno State Police Command has intensified security measures in the area. Police officers have been deployed to boost surveillance, while an armed team has been stationed to reassure residents and strengthen local security.

ASP Daso stated that local police immediately responded to reports of the attack, following directives from the Inspector General of Police. The police have since ramped up human and logistical resources to counter the escalating threat of insurgency in Chibok and its surrounding areas.

This latest tragedy underscores the urgent need for strengthened security in Borno State to protect vulnerable communities from further attacks.
